We’ve been coming to Penang House for so many years now, and it never disappoints! Every single time we order — whether dining in or takeaway — the food is absolutely on point. Fresh, flavourful, and consistently incredible. The service is always outstanding, warm, and efficient, and we’ve never had a single issue. With the recent renovations, the restaurant looks even more beautiful and welcoming. Penang House has truly set the standard, and we’ll be loyal customers for life. An absolute gem in Mandurah!
When visiting Mandurah from interstate, we tried different restaurants each night. We saw Penang House and meant to be a Malaysian restaurant. We ordered the Signature Dim Sims and we needed to ask for soy sauce. These 4 Dims sims had mince and were ok, nothing to be excited about. We ordered Malaysian Noodle dishes, Fried Kway Teoy and Hokies Noodles with medium spice. Both dishes were very light on with any seafood. 2 Prawns and 3 pieces of calamari. The service was extremely slow with the restaurant busy on a Saturday night, 3 Women serving out front and unknown number making meals out in the kitchen. Many tables waited a long time to deliver any entrees and mains seemed to be delivered in batches with people not eating at the same time. The name Penang conjures up Malaysian food, but the menu has mostly Chinese type items, with a sprinkling of Malaysian items. We ate most of our meals which had some spice, just a lack of seafood and other vegetables besides bok choy. We did not see any other Asian style restaurants around Mandurah, apart from a Thai restaurant . We would not recommend Penang House.
The food here is delicious and the waiting staff polite and friendly. The combination soup is a small work of art, with delectable broth, and each variety of meat and vegetable in the bowl, it's own type of miraculous.
Really impressed with the food, service, and the atmosphere. Seems like they just had renovated. Ordered dim sum, fried noodle, and beef szechuan. Everything was great. Would definitely recommend this restaurant to any friends who travel to Mandurah.
Visit Date: Friday 3 January 2025, 7pm HIGHLY RECOMMEND booking a table if you are dining at Penang House on a Friday night. The restaurant was full when I arrived at 7pm, except for the table that I easily booked over the phone on the same day in the afternoon 📞📖 Parking is scarce, as Penang House is located at the Mandurah Foreshore, so I always park at the Smart Street Woolworths carpark (which is a 5 minute walk away). The restaurant was very noisy, but eventually got quieter when more people left between 8pm to 8:30pm. This meant that I had to speak louder to my friends, despite sitting at the same table near the front of Penang House 🗣 There were two waitresses attending to the tables, which resulted in difficulties calling them over and food waiting times being ~40 minutes to an hour long. The waitress that served our table acknowledged and apologised for the long waiting time. She was knowledgeable about the dishes and was able to advise us of the ingredients. My two friends and I ordered the Special Fried Rice, Szechuan Beef and Penang Prawns. The food was delicious and a little bit on the sweet side. The food portions were filling for the three of us; we just managed to finish all three dishes. My friends also ordered takeaway; this was cooked and provided after our meal, which arrived in a timely manner, likewise with the Sago Pudding with Palm Syrup and Coconut Milk. Good meals and good service. I would like to return to Penang House for the lunch menu. Note: Food photos (except the Penang Prawns and Sago dessert) were photographed half way through eating 😅
